Father formula feeding his babyShortage of formula for infants with food allergies

You may have recently heard about infant formula shortages in Canada due to disrupted production events. While there is no shortage of regular infant formula in Canada, there is a shortage of extensively hydrolyzed and amino acid-based formulas prescribed for infants with food allergies and certain medical conditions.

If you need specialized infant formula and cannot find it, speak to your doctor, nurse practitioner or registered dietitian to discuss your baby’s needs and learn about other alternatives. You can also contact Health Connect Ontario with feeding questions.

If your baby does not need specialized (hypoallergenic) infant formula, please do not buy it. Let’s save specialized infant formulas for babies with allergies and medical conditions who need them the most.
