The Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS) is an ongoing telephone survey of Timiskaming adults aged 18 years and older. The survey is currently only available by phone and takes less than 20 minutes to complete.

RRFSS is conducted by health units across Ontario by trained telephone interviewers working at The Institute for Social Research at York University (Toronto). Telephone numbers are selected randomly using a computer program. If an interviewer for RRFSS calls at an inconvenient time, an appointment can be made for a day or time that is more convenient to the participant.

RRFSS provides timely and useful information to help plan local public health programs and services. The survey collects information about the beliefs, health and behaviours of Timiskaming residents to help improve the health of our community. Participants who agree to take part will be asked questions about health-related topics such as nutrition, immunization, and social media use. There are also demographic questions such as age, education, languages spoken and income.

Participation is voluntary and respondents can refuse to take part at any point in the survey. Collected information is anonymized and provided to the health unit for analysis.
